farmstink???? that is incredibly silly and a little bit rude!!!!!!! my name is =>
I want you to picture Zooey Deschanel. Got it? Okay, good. Next, imagine Zooey Deschanel in a movie directed by Wes Anderson, released during Oscar season with a soundtrack featuring poppy shoegaze. Now that you've done that, you've got an idea of how people perceive Jade Harley.
Perky and quirky, Jade is introduced to the audience as a girl who likes to do silly things. Jade picks up a flute and begins to play it, poorly, and then questions why she even did that, when she knows she doesn't play flute. While she considers tossing it on the ground in disgust, Jade ultimately decides she'd rather captchalogue it and practice flute. It's a simple act, but Jade's bright and cheery outlook shines through in that moment. The grass is always greener on the other side, and there's nothing in that saying that tells you that you can't just go over to that side of the lawn! Jade's got a bit of a brave streak to her, too, so she'd be more than willing to jump over and see what the fuss is all about; after all, who knows? It might be kind of fun.there is still something worth fighting for!
It's easy to see that Jade's an adventurous, brave girl who will do what's necessary. In a moment of peril, John's dreamself's life is on the line. Jade doesn't hesitate when she leaps into action, and the incident ultimately ends with Jade's dreamself dying. Before that, however, Jade begins to slap John's slumbering body, attempting to wake him up as quickly as possible. It doesn't work, but Jade saves his life, and doesn't seem all that bothered it came at the price of her own. At her heart, Jade's a sweet and sunny girl - in contrast to her friends, she never seems to give up, and takes on Herculean levels of difficult tasks with a buck toothed grin. Each of the kids' planets house what is essential a boss in video game terms. Jade's is Echnida, and she gives Jade a supposedly impossible task. Despite how difficult it seems, Jade agrees. If she's meant to succeed in the task, she will. Her motto is that things will work out, eventually. There are other examples of this: In the game, the universe is quite literally a giant frog called the Genesis Frog. Jade's role as the Hero of Space is to breed the frog that will become the Genesis Frog, and the session she's playing in is running out of time. She might not have enough time to breed the frog, but she's determined to try, anyway. In a manner of speaking, this blinding optimism is Jade's greatest asset.
That optimism, however, could be mistaken for naivety, and you'd be forgiven for thinking Jade childish. Her room is decorated in Squiddles posters (a children's cartoon featuring adorable anthropomorphic squids that like to cuddle), furry posters (the non-sexy version, thank goodness), and littered with tiny floating gardens. She still plays with dolls, despite being in her teens, and she likes to get comfy in piles of her plushies. Her room is a colorful mess that betrays her interests, but you can easily miss the rifles by her bed - Jade's a skilled markswoman, and more than capable of defending herself. Still, Jade has rules about this sort of thing. She's reasonable and says that no innocent creature would ever be caught in her crosshairs, and under no circumstances is this something under negotiation. When Jade gets an idea in her head, she takes it and runs - she's a determined, bright person with a stubborn streak a mile wide.once i was even more of a dork than you
but now i am one of the most powerful beings who has ever existed
i dont want to hear any whining about what you think you cant do
All of this ties in with how other people view Jade: Dave believes that Jade needs protection over all else, when in reality, it's because of Jade that they survive the Scratch at all. The Scratch is a last ditch effort wherein the universe is reset so that a doomed session can potentially gain more favorable conditions. Once the Scratch has been performed, the universe is rewritten, which results in a rewrite of everyone's memories, too. However, Jade manages to get everyone in their session moved to the next, completing her deal with Echnida. With this, Jade can successfully breed the Genesis Frog, and saved the session.
Were it not for Jade accepting all the responsibilities placed on her shoulders during Sburb, it's likely that the game wouldn't have done as well as it did; Jade adapts to the role of a leader quickly and easily, a role that her patron troll, Karkat, covets. Her position as a Space player means that her existence in the game is crucial, and without her, the game can't be won. The gang's lucky, then, that she is their Space player, because Jade's willing to do what has to be done. Her blind optimism ends up being such a great asset to them all. Really, it's likely no surprise how capable Jade is: She grew up without a parent, and was attended to by Bec, a First Guardian in the shape of a dog. That means Jade had to learn to fend for herself, care for herself and take care of her home all on her own.
What this means is that Jade learned science, gardening and how to shoot without much, if any, help from others. Her grandfather most likely had a flair for gadgetry himself, and Jade, as a curious child, most likely stumbled into the hobby, too. Still, it's worth nothing that she managed that, and even discovered an interest in nuclear physics. She's intelligent and capable, and this is easy to see in how she rushes forward in her life. Jade's bubbly and bright, an excitable girl who always seems to smile, but she's got a bite to her when the need calls.
In fact, growing up without much human contact means that Jade is a bit awkward when it comes to other people. This isn't very obvious, though. Instead of being unable to interact with people, Jade's more likely to not understand their emotions. This is most easily seen when she prototypes her dreamself's corpse, bringing Jadesprite into being. Jadesprite, having spent so much time dead, is more than a bit distraught, and she begins to break down, sobbing over how she wants to go back to the afterlife. Jade grows increasingly frustrated, even though she starts the interaction by being understanding. After all, Jade is Jadesprite, in a way. Their memories aren't the same, but they were, at some point, the exact same person. She can relate and feel that pain, too, but Jadesprite doesn't see a point in going on. Jade's frustration builds until she's outright shouting at the sprite, telling her to shut up, and slapping her. Jade doesn't understand why her sprite would be so unwilling to move forward, why she would feel so hopeless.
She's pinned for a childish, giggling little girl, and while that's understandable - it's not all of Jade. She's willing to break the rules to get things done. When Bec grounds her, Jade sneaks out, zip lining out of her room and continuing on with her journey. Her friends believe that Jade is psychic, but all she's doing is gathering information through the clouds on Skaia and using that information to benefit them. It's no different from research, really, and Jade likes to be prepared.
Something people may not expect from Jade is her honesty. She is a straight forward speaker and she is not above telling someone she just doesn't want to be bothered with them. Jade's a patient person, and more than willing to give people second chances - this is seen best with her relationship with Karkat. Jade forms a friendship with him after she follows his advice, and begins helping her with frog breeding. This is in spite of the fact that Karkat was incredibly rude to her, and Jade made no attempt to hide how incredible done with him she was. This sort of honesty is seen from her, again, when she outright rejects Eridan's "gift" to her, saying that she doesn't want it because she doesn't like him. If something bothers her, Jade will say so. On that note, Jade's still willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. Just know that if she's mad at you, she really means it!! Seriously.
POWERS:
🌟CONDITIONAL IMMORTALITY Jade's ascended to Godtier, which means that she has conditional immortality. The conditions are incredibly simple: Unless Jade's death is "heroic" or "just", she will revive upon death. A "heroic" death is exactly what it sounds like - if Jade were to die performing a heroic act, like defending someone else's life at the cost of her own, Jade would stay dead. "Just," on the other hand, means that if Jade were to, say, become possessed and be stopped in the middle of committing an evil act, she'd also stay dead. If her death doesn't fall into either of these categories, Jade will revive immediately.
🌟FLIGHT In addition to the above conditional immortality, ascending as a fully realized Witch of Space means that Jade can fly! There aren't any conditions to this, and she survives, unsurprisingly, in space without any fuss at all. In theory, she can leave Earth. Congrats, Jade.
🌟TELEPORTATION As part of her ability to warp space, Jade can teleport just about anywhere! Jade can transport herself and others just about anywhere.
🌟SIZE MANIPULATION Another Spacey thing: Jade can shrink or grow things at will. This ability of her's was integral to surviving the Scratch, as she used this ability to shrink planets down, and captchalogue them. Later, it's explained that in addition to transporting other people, Jade can also shrink or grow them as she wants. This, again, is a plot point - shrinking John and Davesprite down to allow them to visit John's planet leads their death, which means Jade is completely alone for her trip to the new session.
🌟TELEKINESIS Exactly what it says on the tin: Jade can interact with objects without touching them! Again, this is plot relevant. Jade is the one flying the ship that she, John, Davesprite, Nannasprite and Jaspersprite are traveling on. Predictably, Jade also can use these powers for things she doesn't need to use them for, like bypassing a fork and eating her cake by floating it on over. There is a limit to this ability - she can't break the law of physics. Jade explains this by saying she can only fly the ship at the speed of light, and no faster. Mostly because faster does not exist beyond that.
🌟THE GREEN SUN I'm not sure if this would be a problem in game or not, but for the sake of keeping everything on here, I'll touch on Jade's connection with the Green Sun. When Jade prototyped her dream self's corpse, Bec jumped in as well. This means Jadesprite was both Jade and Becquerel - Jadesprite coming back to life allowed Jade to ascend to Godtier through a merging of the two. This is relevant here because Bec is a First Guardian, and First Guardians are easiest understood as guarding their respective planets. The source of their power is The Green Sun, which presides over many universes. Jade describes it thus, "think of it like a giant solar system, but instead of planets revolving around the sun, there are many universes." Jade can tap into Bec's tie to the Green Sun, and use it. This is seemingly vague, but the powers that seem to be associated with this most are her teleportation, which also appears to be a space related power. It also seems that Bec was able to tell where Jade was at any point in time, being something like an omnipotent god. Since Jade is only half First Guardian, however, John says she's "semi-potent," as a joke. It's not canonically confirmed that Jade can tell where someone else is at any point in time, though it's something that comes up as factual in fandom. For the sake of avoiding godmoding, Jade as I play her does not "retain" this ability.
🌟SYLLADEX Jade has a hammerspace in the form of a sylladex! Explaining how a sylladex works would take forever, so the simplest way to put it is that it's Homestuck's version of an inventory. Each sylladex has a fetch modus, which determines the way items are stored. Jade's got a wide array of fetch modii, and each of them are themed after board games. Her go-to is themed after the game Memory. A list of all known modii that Jade has can be viewed here. As a note, it's unlikely Jade would use any modii aside from Memory and Pictionary in game, as though are the only ones she uses regularly in canon.
🌟MARKSWOMANSHIP Jade is an excellent shoot! She's handy with a gun and specifically favors rifles. She's seen handling them in canon a fair few times, and she even has Riflekind set up, but this is easily displayed best when she shoots her kernel sprite while blindfolded, allowing her to enter the game.
🌟BOTANY Growing up on an island with only a dog to help her out means that Jade had to fend for herself with food. This likely led to Jade picking up gardening, because it was one way to get fresh fruits and veggies. That said, Jade's got a green thumb and a strong interest in horticulture. She loves growing things, no matter what it is.
🌟GADGETRY As mentioned, it's not unlikely Jade learned this from tinkering around with the remains of her grandfather's hobby. As such, she's a self taught gadgeteer.
OTHER: Jade's half First Guardian after merging the corpse of her dream self with her dog, Becquerel. When she rose to Godtier, Jade merged with Jadesprite, her reawakened +1 life. The result is that she has dog ears and isn't entirely human - the ears are the only part of her anatomy that's changed, though! She sadly doesn't have a cute tail.
GAME INFO;
MAGIC ABILITY: Vinemancy, which would manifest as the ability to create and manipulate vines.
PRICE: Her treasure chest, but only the actual box. It was a gift from her late Grandfather, and something of a treasure in itself.
ACCLIMATION: A very solid 8. If anything, Jade might enjoy the pace and world hopping of the game, and were she not just fresh off being mind controlled by a figure similar to Qri, this would probably be higher. For the most part, Jade won't have a problem adjusting to the game, the situation or the magic in it. "Fate" has been tossing Jade into strange situations for as long as possible, and SBURB is, in a manner of speaking, a dimension and world hopping video game. However, the nature of listening to one person who has such strong power is reminiscent of the Condesce, a dictator fishlady in Homestuck who mindcontrolled Jade. While it's not likely Jade will ever outright voice this concern, it may give her some misgivings about following Qri wordlessly.
