[When she does, she will find it is, of course, another classic case of Dirk Strider getting Carried Away. The box contains, first off, several adorable plushes. They're super cute! They're squiddles, all forty eight of them, hand-sewn by master plush-maker Dirk Strider. And you'd think that would be enough, but that would mean not understanding that Dirk started with one squiddle and ended up with forty eight and that such a progression is naturally just the beginning. Because underneath the squiddles are even more plushes, all of classic anthropomorphic cartoon greats, several of which have magnetic hands so they can hold tools for her! A catperson is holding a metal box with a bunch of wrenches as a demonstration. And underneath those, she'll find a set of plush wolves that were just going to be normal wolves, but one is holding a telescope in its jaw, and it's made so you look through the back of the head out the other side to the telescope because Dirk is horrifying; another has a pop-open chest that contains paper for charting astronomical things.

Finally, there is a plush of Ser Thumperton himself. He is adorable, and fuzzy, and dressed up as a knight.

He is wearing a non-expression that actually has an undercurrent of nervousness. He may not know Jade as well as he would like, but he really likes and respects her so he hopes?? this meets her interests??? He Tried, dammit.]

[ jade's a loss for words for a moment. opening up the package reveals a trove of adorable goodies and it takes her back to her room on her island. it's not the same, but she likes to think that dirk's giving her all this out of the goodness of his heart, and not just because he hopes jade likes him because dirk likes jake. it doesn't seem dirk's style anyway; he's too cool to be a bag of dicks like that, she thinks.

...she won't have nearly enough room for them, but they're great. perfect, even. ]

You really outdid yourself!!

[ the cat with the wrench is what she holds up, over her head, and then she spins. jade holds it so that, to her, it looks like it's perched on dirk's shoulder. ] This one is like you!

[splinten]

[He was so nervous, so eager not to mess this up, and then Jade does that and something cracks and he mutters] Oh my God. [and puts his face in his hands. He's flustered. He's gone.]

[witchhooded]

[ jade is usually pretty good at reading people, so she can only imagine this is... embarrassment? ]

Meow-ow! What's up, pussycat?

[ she has to get closer to pat him on the shoulder, but she's got no problem doing that. ]

[Dirk mutters, because memes]

It's not unusual.

[He forces himself to straighten up and not have an expression and be cool.]

So you like it. I'm glad to hear it.

[ jade, unfortunately, missed the salt and pepper diner bit. she looks at him, her gaze just slightly quizzical, and then decides that, nah, not the time. ]

I love it! I'll name all of them and keep them safe forever and ever! Thank you! Can I hug you?

[ last time, it didn't go too well, but a thank you hug seems like it's okay, right? ]

Yeah, go for it.

[He likes hugs. He fears hugs. He wants hugs.]

[ without further ado, jade leans forward and wraps her arms around dirk, pulling him in for a hug. ]

This is one of the best birthday gifts ever, seriously! I can barely believe it!

[splinten]

[He hugs back, and he's getting better at it. His voice is mumbled.] 'm glad you liked it. [Because he's pretty sure it isn't the best gift ever, but what matters is that it's a gift that she likes.]
